Ever since I realized I could easily air fry halloumi instead of searing it in a pan, I've been obsessed. This 15-minute Air Fryer Hot Honey Halloumi is your next perfect appetizer, salad topping... or hear me out here, movie snack!

Here in Calgary we have finally made it to the day when one can find halloumi not only at the local Mediterranean grocers, but even at Costcos and some Superstores. Praise be. Because of that, I'm cooking with halloumi more often these days.
Paired with a good hot honey, this stuff is really addictive. And really, quite healthy too, as long as you don't mind the sodium.
Ingredients
You only need 5 ingredients for this Air Fryer Halloumi recipe, and most of them are spices:

Halloumi: Halloumi is a Cypriot cheese. The authentic ones are made with goat and sheep milk, although nowadays some use cow's milk. What makes it popular (and different from most cheese) is how hard it is to melt. That makes it a perfect grilling or frying cheese. It's a bit similar to paneer in that regard, although halloumi has a bouncier, chewier texture. The Canadian in me appreciates the "squeaky" bite of halloumi, which reminds me of cheese curds.
Garlic Powder, Paprika, and Black Pepper: I'm keeping it simple for this recipe, but you can wild out if you want and try some other seasonings. Check out the Variations section of this post for ideas.
Hot Honey: Halloumi was born to be paired with honey. Mike's Hot Honey is the OG and still my favourite. If you don't have hot honey, regular honey also tastes fantastic with this cheese.

Directions

Step 1: Slice halloumi into ½ inch to ¾ inch thick slices and pat dry.

Step 2: Toss the halloumi in garlic powder, pepper, and paprika until evenly coated.
Tip: If you are going to eat this hot honey halloumi on its own, I'd recommend soaking the halloumi pieces in water for 30 minutes to remove some of the salt, before you pat them dry. Halloumi is usually packed in a salt brine so it's QUITE salty.

Step 3: Air fry for 10 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Step 4: Drizzle hot honey over the halloumi and serve.
Variations
- Spicy - If the hot honey isn't enough for you, try Mike's Extra Hot or sprinkle in 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes.
- Cumin & Coriander - Add ½ teaspoon each of cumin and coriander to the seasoning mix.
- Italian Seasoning - Add 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning (rosemary, thyme, basil, oregano) to the seasoning mix.
Storage
Fridge: Air fried halloumi can be stored in the fridge for up to one week.
Freezer: Freeze halloumi for up to three months in an airtight container.
